International Cheetah Day 2024

Dates: 12/4/2024 - 12/4/2024
Price: Included with Admission

Celebrate International Cheetah Day with the Little Rock Zoo! Cheetahs play a vital role in maintaining the balance of their ecosystems by controlling herbivore populations, which prevents overgrazing in their savannah and grassland habitats. In the last 100 years, the world has lost 90% of the wild cheetah population. The primary threat to cheetahs is habitat loss due to human activities and encroachment, along with poaching and illegal capture.

Schedule of Activities

10:00-12:00: Awareness table at Cheetah Outpost with hands-on activities and interactive exploration station

10:30: Keeper chat at Cheetah Outpost

Here’s how we can contribute to Cheetah Conservation:
  1. Raise Awareness: Use International Cheetah Day to raise awareness about the challenges cheetahs face. Share information about their benefits, the impact of habitat loss, and the critical need for conservation efforts.
  2. Shop Sustainably: Use your purchasing power to support responsible businesses that protect forests, improve the livelihoods of farmers and forest communities, promote human rights, and help humans and wildlife thrive. Look for products that are Fair Trade Certified to promote businesses who aim to reduce threats to many endangered species, including cheetahs.
  3. Support Responsible Breeding: As an AZA member, the Little Rock Zoo is an active participant in a number of Species Survival Plans (SSP), aimed at managing and conserving typically threatened or endangered animal populations. Zoos and aquariums play a leading role in preserving animal populations across the globe. By sharing research and knowledge, participating institutions work together to establish guidelines that best ensure the health of captive populations, and with success, the survival of endangered species.
  4. Support Conservation Organizations: Contribute to reputable conservation organizations dedicated to cheetah conservation, like one of the Little Rock Zoo’s partners, Cheetah Conservation Fund. Your support can fund research, habitat protection, and community programs essential for the survival of cheetahs. By visiting the Zoo, you’re already doing this! A portion of your admission and parking fee is dedicated to conservation groups we are partnered with.
