LITTLE ROCK (August 23, 2025)— In 2024, we introduced Iroh—the Little Rock Zoo’s very first Komodo dragon—and now, this personable young reptile is celebrating a big milestone: his second birthday!
Since arriving, Iroh has settled comfortably into his new home inside the Reptile House. With his curious personality and love of interaction, he’s quickly become a guest favorite. He often walks right up to the glass to check out visitors, explores enrichment items with enthusiasm, and enjoys basking under the heat lamps after a good meal.
But don’t let his charming nature fool you—Komodo dragons are the largest lizards in the world and apex predators in the wild. Iroh currently weighs just over 8 pounds, but as an adult, he could reach up to 10 feet long and tip the scales at 150–300 pounds. Watching him grow is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and we’re thrilled to share that journey with our community.
Visit Him in His New Home!
Explore Isle of the Dragon, the Zoo’s newest exhibit, and meet both Iroh and Tiamat, our two young Komodo dragons. This innovative habitat offers indoor and outdoor viewing so guests can see these incredible reptiles up close.

Designed specifically for the unique needs of Komodo dragons, the exhibit features UV-penetrating skylights, naturalistic basking and climbing structures, shallow pools, and training windows. These elements support their physical and behavioral health and help keepers provide safe, hands-on care—from routine wellness checks to daily enrichment.
Celebrate Iroh’s Second Birthday
We invite you to stop by the Reptile House and wish Iroh a happy birthday! Whether he’s basking, exploring, or peering through the glass to greet you, it’s the perfect time to see this remarkable species in action.
