Little Rock Zoo Resolves Hoax Threat
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (June 19, 2026) – The Little Rock Zoo received a non-credible bomb threat shortly after opening at 9:33AM on Friday morning. The Zoo immediately enacted its bomb threat protocol that includes calling emergency services, setting a perimeter, and initiating a search of the property. The threat was found to be non-credible and was quickly resolved. The Zoo resumed normal operations shortly thereafter. Little Rock Police remain onsite out of an abundance of caution. Zoo Introduces Capybara Art Sculptures in Celebration of Capybara Return
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (June 2, 2026) – The Little Rock Zoo is celebrating the return of capybaras to the Zoo with the introduction of 22 interactive art sculptures that made their debut this week on Zoo grounds. The real live capybaras will make their return to the Zoo when the Zoo completes the new Project Zoo: Wildly Reimagined construction project set to open soon. Little Rock Zoo Awarded $306K for Native Habitat Restoration and Erosion Control
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (April 29, 2026) – The Little Rock Zoo has been awarded $306,671 by the Metroplan Board for Green Network projects through the Natural State Implementation Grant, part of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Climate Pollution Reduction Grants (CPRG) Program. Funds will support erosion control, restore native plant populations, and address invasive species across Zoo grounds. The project will rebuild soil integrity and create landscapes that reflect the Zoo’s conservation mission. Capybaras Are Coming Back to the Little Rock Zoo
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (April 27, 2026) – The friendly, energy-filled, but easy-going Capybaras are coming back to the Little Rock Zoo! They will make their return- after a 6- year absence- with the Zoo’s renovation, Project Zoo: Wildly Reimagined. The largest rodent in the world, the capybara, is twice the size of a beaver and can weigh up to 150 lbs. Capybaras are native to South America, with the largest population in Brazil.
