Visit the Little Rock Zoo

The Little Rock Zoo has long been one of Arkansas's great treasures. It all began modestly in 1926, with just two animals — an abandoned timber wolf and a circus-trained brown bear. Today, we have grown to include nearly 400 animals representing 200+ species, many on the endangered list. The Zoo itself, has become one of the state's greatest educational and conservation resources.

Many exotic worlds are yours to explore at the Zoo. Experience the majesty of elephants and rhinos. Marvel at the strength and beauty of lions, tigers and jaguars in our Big Cat Habitat. Monkey around at Spider Monkey or Lemur islands. Or slither around to the Reptile House to go face-to-fang with an intriguing reptile.

If you need a break from the action, take a relaxing ride on the Over-the-Jumps Carousel.

Before you leave, stop by the Safari Trader Gift Shop, where you can find all sorts of ZOOVENIRS to remind you of your visit. Whenever you visit, chances are you'll see something new and exciting. We look forward to seeing you at the Little Rock Zoo.

Director's Statement

Susan AltruiYour Zoo provides an inspirational, educational experience that grows a passion for animals and a respect for all living things. That’s why we are accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) and participate in important conservation programs. The Little Rock Zoo is located in the heart of central Arkansas in War Memorial Park and we take heart in caring for the more than 200 animals that live here.

Our staff also take pride in supporting important conservation projects that save animals locally and abroad and you can, too. The Little Rock Zoo supports AZA SAFE (Saving Animals From Extinction) programs as well as other conservation initiatives that have a direct impact on the lives of animals. We know that it is our responsibility to also care about animals beyond our acreage and we work diligently to ensure a future for wild places and the many wild things in our world.

The Little Rock Zoo is an important part of our community and has been since 1924. We are one of the largest family destinations in Arkansas and an important place for conservation learning. We invite you to explore our Zoo, engage with our dedicated staff, and learn more about the natural world around us.

Sincerely,

Susan Altrui Signature
