Elephants

 

The Little Rock Zoo has always been noted for its elephants.  Mary and Ellen, the Zoo's two Asian elephants, hold a special place in the hearts of many Arkansans.  When visitors come to the Zoo they don't ask "How are the elephants?" they ask "How are Mary and Ellen?"  Ellen the elephant has lived at the Little Rock Zoo since 1954  and was joined by elephant Mary in 2001 when Mary was brought to the Zoo to be a companion to Ellen.  The two live out their days chomping on bamboo and enjoying time in their newly expanded yard.  We hope you enjoy reading more about these two special individuals who are important not just to the Little Rock Zoo but to the state of Arkansas.  See below for more....
